I was going to get a PSVR for $200 (dont have a 4K tv so no HDR dont matter) but then I saw that the Oculus Rift is $350 on Amazon right now. I'm wondering how my PC would be able to handle games

There is a VR-benchmark-tool on steam. Try it ut and see for yourself.

The 970 will handle it fine. You may not be able to do the newer games like Project Cars at ultra but it'll handle 90% of the games just fine.

Decent enough. The only game I had trouble with using that card was Raw Data back in its early days.

Uh, maybe don't lower resolution in VR because the screen is literally in your face.

Could it run VR? Yeah.
Would I advice getting a VR headset with that build? No.

Resolution aside, VR demands high FPS for it to offer a good experience. The minimum acceptable FPS is 90 last time I checked. You're going to have some serious issues with VR with your current build, and would probably need better CPU as well as GPU for better performance.
I used to have a good signature, then I got modded for it.
Now I shall try to think of something edgier to put here.

Honestly I'd take a psvr over it. Especially if you have a pro.

Re7 looks great. Skyrim is fantastic. Farpoint is awesome too
