The rules are, as I imagine them :

1 Don't trade $$$ and PP
2 Get every BM
3 Parts are allowed to be used and equipped
*4 Don't employ any of the secret stuff
*5 Do not cheat !!

Some stages are still very easy, but most of them become much more strategic.
Also, boss fights are damn epic.
Casualties are inevitable.

It's not difficult in the beginning if you don't aim for the Battle Masteries !
Getting the BM is what make most stages challenging and fun.

A No-upgrade challenge isn't really for the purpose of FUN. but more for the purpose of developing a strategy for someone whose wasted all his upgrades on bad choices can still beat the game.

Your point is irrelevant.
I'm doing this for the fun that comes with a challenge.

No, you're doing it for the fun that comes with masochism. Fun with a challenge is different.

It's not very difficult, really.

It's a rather simple challenge that force you to use each pilot and mech to the full extent of their abilities, while keeping track of the terrains.

I only had to restart five missions and I'm up to 27. Some BM require a very good timing, especially that particular stage where you must overrun an army of goons, then Echidna then finally Axel -- all within 10 turns.
I lost 2/3 of my mechs in my battle against Axel ; quite fun.

It feels much more "natural" to be losing mechs during stage, and to remain grouped around the Defense Supports mechs.
