Welcome to Chapter 7 of the Aurum/Aurix storyline!

In Chapter 1, we witnessed as nearly the entire population of the world was wiped out by a comet that collided with the surface of our homeworld, Vuunega, eradicating the planet's original sapient race, the Zomm, and causing a substantial mass extinction that lead to the deaths of approximately 99.99% of the species living at the time, due to the sky and oceans becoming saturated with sulfur that was brought to the crust's surface by various volcanoes which erupted following the planet's upheaval due to the comet.

Eventually the sulfuric content of the airs and oceans subsided to the neutral zone again, and we then evolved from tiny, very simple paramecium-like protista living in the upper regions of a tropical tide pool connected to the ocean, to an eventual evolution into a race of parasitic eel-like creatures living in a vuukelp forest possibly a half-mile from shore and about 30-110 feet below the waves.

For many millions of years, we have fought off our voracious cousins, a race now known as the Neomwa, which had split off from us early in the game to search the lower depths of the tide pool, only to return as vicious, unrelenting predators, now found to be flying cephalopoids (a class of organisms very similar to octopus & squid).

In Chapter 2, we spent much of our early years hiding within a cavern as a small colony, known forever as Colony Rock. We eventually returned to our nomadic roots however, choosing to explore rather than stay put. Despite our exploratory tendencies, we were too afraid to attempt anything risky. We eventually grew better eyesight (our only sense at the time), as well as monochromatic camouflage and an electrical discharge operated through electroplaques stored in our tails. We had recently encountered a huge massacre in our vuukelp forest too, unaware of the cause.

In Chapter 3, we chose to flee the vuukelp forests forever rather than waiting for things to settle down, and were soon on our way to the koryl reefs we had seen millennia before, which stood between us and the nearby continent of Zeeon. Upon arrival, we swiftly (or rather, as swiftly as we could) set up a new colony underneath the tangled "tentacles" of one of the local species of koryl, known as Urn Koryl, where we fed on the poisonous but slow and docile Nudibranch-like creatures. Living here did not last long, and we soon discovered large ray-likes, called Titan Rays, offshoots of our ancient prey, the Skulker Rays (which were in turn the descendants of an even more ancient prey, the Loomer Vorm), swimming just on the outskirts of the koryl reef. Soon we found ourselves attaching to them as permanent hosts, which had fed us so well with its own blood, we finally grew in size without instigation. It wasn't long however until the Neomva (the ancestors of the Neomwa) discovered us, and once again exploited us as a food source. Near the end, we evolved from our old parasitic eeloid forms into a new species not found on Earth belonging to the Hemovenators (a genus of parasitic cephalopod-like creatures with backbones called spinocephalopods). Finally the Titan Rays swam as far into the koryl reef as they safely could, and began to mingle (they are typically semi-solitary swimmers), and the Aurix found that the Neomva had been feeding on other creatures as well, although it was still uncertain why they were actually somewhat rarely around.

In Chapter 4, we quickly made friends with a species of crustacean-like organisms which became known to us as Flash Shrimp, and almost as quickly discovered a koryl trench that led into a shallow tide pool, where we soon began to spend our days in luxury. Here we also split once more, with one group growing shells and becoming our cousin species, the Vrenna, who chose to remain as bipodic spinocephalopods rather than evolving into quadrupods like our Aurix did. These Vrennum also expressed little to no interest in us whatsoever, and due to their camouflage as well as their habits of hiding under the sand for their prey, they were usually not seen.

Although mainly free from predators there in the tidal pool, our curiosity got the better of us and nearly ended in our extinction when we went back into and past the reef to investigate water plumes we witnessed arcing from the water's surface. These turned out to belong to the King of Swimmers, the apparent top-of-the-food-chain species of the marine habitats, which didn't hesitate to eat us. We also met another offshoot from an earlier era...the Zrrmzasha, which had evolved in that time into a race of icthyosaurians. Fleeing both species, we encountered a final species, the huge Murkdwellers, but successfully escaped and made it safely back to the tidal pool with very few members remaining.

In Chapter 5, the chance arose for us to leave our oceanic homes and populate the land, in the form of another disaster. This started as an over population of a local species of small jellyfish-like creatures known as the Aneucts, and culminated in several races starving to the point of ferocious necessity-hunting. With the threat of so many different species on our hands, several members of our battery fled onto the lands, with the rest of our group finally reaching land several months later. In that amount of time, the original land-reachers had successfully split into two sub-species -- the Grendon and the Quirlax. These two offshoots had quickly differentiated themselves from the original Aurix strain, and were no longer related to us. The Neomwa soon came to land as well, following the flight path of a gargantuan flying rays, aptly named the Gargantua Rays. Soon we fled into the surrounding catapult forests, and after a while, finally settled down within the confines of a local mangrove swamp known as the Deep Mangrove. Several offshoots popped up into common knowledge during this Chapter, including the Grendon (which became a species of terrestrial hemophagous spinocephalopod), and Quirlax (which instead became a species of herbivorous reptiloid) mentioned before, and also including the Screek (a bat-like species of reptiloid), and the Zrrnigor (an offshoot of the Zrrmzasha species). This was the first chapter where we forewent brain enhancement in lieu of remaining in the creature stage for at least another chapter. During this chapter, we also lost our ancient ways of eating, losing the parasitic lifestyle for one far more suited for carnivorous tendencies, which we turned towards our cousins, the Grendons.

In Chapter 6, we ushered in a new era with the origin of the Windy Season, during which time winds pick up and gust through the trees of our home, and strange, harmonic sounds begin to emanate during the night. Neomwa choose to take advantage of this new season to better attack the Aurix, causing the colonies natural aggravation. Not long after the first windy season, the Vrennum moved into the swamps, although the reasons behind this was not known; at the same time, the South Shore Aurix were spotted fighting a shelled reptilian, although who was on the offensive was not understood...the West Shore chose not to help their cousins.

The Aurix then befriended the Spinsters, a race of dryptoscelidans (a species that exist in place of arachnids). This relationship has not gone far, but they now are accustomed to our close proximities. That night, we witnessed strange green streaks falling from the sky, and the next day came across a mutated Neomwa after a defensive mother successfully kills several of the vicious flying feeders, although they chose not to follow up on this strange occurance.

The Aurix had for too long fed heavily on the Grendon, which, although it instigated a natural growth spurt in our species, had significantly lowered our prey's population. To prevent starvation, we were forced to feed on our long-time allies, the Quirlax. This has caused them to lose a great amount of trust for us, but we have continued to survive because of it, and have begun to directly affect their evolutionary path.

Not long after this decision, a loud, crashing sound emanated from somewhere within the mangrove, followed by screeches, thunder, scuffling, and finally eerie silence. Within half an hour, panicked members of North Shore joined up with us, and we sent out an away team to their territory to discover what had gone wrong. We soon discovered a steaming crash site that had accidentally obliterated a large area of the North colony's territory. With no remaining Aurix in the area, it was now populated with a species of strange, extravuurestrial sapient beings, who would become known as the Permitted. It was this species who gave us the name of the planet, Vuunega, which had been used by the Zomm all those years ago. Not knowing their intentions, we chose to attack them first before they could attack us. After successfully killing two sentries and one explorer, those missing are discovered, and the intruders geared up, and soon thereafter fought a strange, bounding species.

In the climactic minutes of this, our latest chapter, the reinforcements to the away team got in position, and watched as a number of the Permitted left the camp. While this was the time for glory for those fighting the intruders, the colony became the site of a horror scene as a large, tentacled reptiloid exploded from the waters, standing near the young, defenseless aurumlings. Sensing it was excited, we chose to attack it. How will these attacks fare? You shall find out as Chapter 7 begins!

We are both symbiotic and carnivorous - we long ago formed a symbiotic relationship with a small single-celled organism known as the Chlorolomba, which have continued to provide us with photosynthesis, and we have more recently begun feeding mostly off of meat obtained from creatures we have killed with our various natural weaponry -- our prey items include Grendon, Quirlax, and the very rare occasion of Whipscales (but this is very rare).

We possess complex forms as ovokentron tentacleiosaurs (reptiloids with tentacle-arms rather than typical bony arms). Although we now live far longer than ever before, we are still dwarfed in lifespan in comparison to modern-day Humans; our lifespans currently exceed two decades.
