Ok so now he saids that he googled "Microsoft and Blue ray" and that a post from 5 days ago has the CEO of Microsoft saying they won't put Blue-Ray into the new xbox due to Sony owning it or whatever and that it'll have streaming like the WiiU instead.

Also never answered the question about the computer thing.

Sony owns a part of BluRay. They would make a little money off it, and that's about it. The next Xbox is more than likely going to have a BluRay player(or some form of it). They would never continue using DVDs or go all digital.

Sony doesn't own the sole rights to Blu-Ray. There is a coalition of companies that do. Microsoft would license the tech just like any other company. Your friend is a moron.

Well his friends dads father is a famous inventor who told him how patending works and its supposed to be not possible for MS to have Blu-ray. I was just curious on the response from you guys, because i'm personally getting pissed off due to stupidity..

What the hell is "patending"? The patents are owned by the Blu-ray Disc Association, whose 19 board members are:

Apple Inc.
Dell Inc.
Hewlett-Packard
Hitachi, Ltd.
Intel Corporation
LG Electronics
Mitsubishi Electric
Panasonic Corporation
Pioneer Corporation
Royal Philips Electronics
Samsung Electronics
Sharp Corporation
Sony Corporation
Sun Microsystems
TDK Corporation
Technicolor SA
20th Century Fox
Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group
Warner Bros. Entertainment

I doubt the other 18 members would want to forgo revenue just because Sony happens to be a board member.

It would be the exact same situation with DVD last gen and this gen.

Idiots who claim Sony "owns" Blu-ray and therefore MS could never use it in their console always forget that they also "own" the rights to DVD, which has been used in both of MS' consoles.

And of course, they don't own ****, they are part of a group that owns the rights.

Microsoft is also part of the DVD Forum, which licenses the DVD format.
