Yeah this is great, and taking it one step further I like be able to see it each time I boot up. Some times I take weeks on a game because I'm doing other stuff or other games in between, and I'll forget what's going on. A few games have done something like this, but I can understand it's more development resources being spent that might otherwise be spent on the core game.

All three of the games you mentioned have that feature, at least, their most recent entries do.

You must've skipped it if you didn't see it in AC3, it's the first cinematic in the game..
