he lost everything....its the new redesigned xbox also...he was a big rpg player so all his skyrim, mass effect, fallout, final fantasy, borderlands etc all gone....

this put me in paranoid mode and i started putting all my gamesaves in the cloud....problem is most of the older arcade games dont use separate saves.

i know this had to have been asked a billion times but are those saves tied to the gamertag to or to the arcade game so if i delete the arcade game for any reason im deleting all my data along with it? thanks.

This happened to me aswell for a while ago. Correct me if Im wrong, but I think some saves are inside your gamertag. If that happens to you too, just recover your gamertag and those saves comes back aswell.

Back ups are a must. Electronic storage is going to fail eventually. Your HD could last 10 years or it could last 10 months.

Unlikely since it can happen real suddenly or over time. The best sign on a 360 at least is to keep an eye on the content. If you see files corrupting, that often is a sign that the hard drive is starting to fail.

But even so, still good to back up. Things can happen and a hard drive can fail suddenly. Even something like a power outage can cause hard drive failure.
