This generation has been too busy showing off it's fancy graphics, where as in the future, I'm sure they'll look dated in time.

Gameplay and story are the most important things, and tbh I haven't come across any jaw dropping gameplay and/or story in this generation.
XBOX 360 GT: Invghost
Games I am looking forward to: Super Motherload, Mewgenics.

This. This gen was so long there are kids out there who've never know another console generation. This will always be their gen.

It was a pretty fantastic generation too, all told.

I don't remember playing on the NES and seeing "Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another DLC"

I wouldn't go quite that far, but to a certain extent I agree.

In terms of story, I can't think of anything that really rivals Deus Ex, Planescape: Torment, Silent Hill 2, and the like.

Some of the more interesting stories this gen are in indie and arcade games. I'm talking about stuff like Braid, Bastion, Papo & Yo, Lone Survivor, To the Moon, etc.

I don't know why these little indie studios are accomplishing what larger studios with multi-million dollar budgets can't (or won't).

I'd agree with that too, though I had more fun last gen.
