that is not an Arcade title.

People really need to learn the difference between a game being available through Games on Demand vs. XBLA titles.

DeathSmiles 2x is just as much a retail game as DeathSmiles is, the fact that outside of Japan it is only available through GoD does not change that.

Akai Katana is awesome.

Took it to a friends place the other day and started playing a bit to kill time before we went out for dinner. In the end we just ordered takeaway because everyone wanted to keep playing it.

Oh, and it looks hard, but after a few playthroughs it's not too bad. Plus you have infinite continues anyway.

Uhhh...I realize that, but considering TC is just asking a basic, Where to start from...type question, I figured I wasn't going to load my answer up with a bunch of region locked import games....just sayin.

For the record I picked Deathsmile on day one from a pre-order and the faceplate is still on my 360.
I've imported Dreamcast shooters before, I know what I'm talking about.

King of Fighters Skystage and Raystorm are quite fun on Xbox Live.

Although it isn't strictly what you asked for TC, there are several very good coop twin stick shooters on Arcade. Such as Renegade Ops, Gatling Gears and Assault Heroes 2.

R-Type (arcade)
Otomedious Excellent. (retail)

I always thought retail meant something bought from a retail store. Hmm.
HP/MP restored!
...but you're still hungry
