Anyone own one of these? At $500 it seemed steep but at this price point is it worth picking one up? (not being my primary gaming tv)

Its pretty decent. Only thing I don't like about it is glossy screen, so in dark environments I see my ugly mug staring back at me. But other than that the picture quality is superb. I don't use 3D so can't comment on that.

I've read a few comments about how the image on the screen cuts off for a second or two ocasionally. Has this problem hapened to anyone here? This tv scares me.

Its happened to me. I was like WTF because I play competitive online FPS's all the time. But I won't say its frequent, more like once every 3 weeks or so it'll do that.

Its a solid TV, but issues with the black outs (apparently turning down the backlight remedies this?) and it being able to break makes it not look so hot.

But at $150 its a great deal and you got a one year manufacture warranty so you should be good.
PS+ has paid it's self for me. So from here on out I will refer to any new games as free.

Get the extended warranty if you can; there was a widespread issue with the screen just dying and never coming back, even on lightly-used week-old displays. I dunno if it's been fixed or not, but better safe than sorry.
