I'll care about my own trophies if I really adore a certain game or feel like hunting trophies in a game will help me feel satisfied. Example: I'm almost done with Demon's Souls and my current playthrough is well mapped to get me the last three trophies.
I don't care about other people's trophies though. I'll check them if I'm bored or if I'm curious to see how far they've gotten in certain games.
Yes, because trophies show genre interest. I don't even know where to begin a conversation with someone not interested in the games I am. I have had many people with nothing but sports and FPS games in their trophy list that try to add me, but I don't even know where to begin with them.
It helps to look for people who are missing the same trophies that you're gunning for in asking them to mutually help each other get certain mp trophies. Of course it can backfire, I once asked a friend to help with RE5 mp since I saw he was missing those too, but it was a game he had rented lol

With me, I like to see what they played and how they fare against me. I know there are people out there that are better than I am, but it's nice to see how I fare against them, see if I can try doing a few that they have. On the other hand I know where I stand against some people.

I don't care from an accomplishment/skill standpoint however I do have 1 friend I compare with a lot and it is because we pretty much always play the same games, however he has less time than me so I use it to judge how far he is in a game so an not to spoil anything.
If I see he has trophies up through "Chapter 6" or whatever then I know I can share my thoughts on anything up to that point that I thought was cool. But it lets me know not to mention anything past that unless he brings it up because he just hasn't synced lately.
