I'd say rent it first, though. It tends to be somewhat divisive, since it is fairly linear.
As for other suggestions... kind of tough, since I can't think of any amazing examples that might fit into your tastes more. I mean, you own Star Ocean, Resonance of Fate, and Eternal Sonata, which suggests you like more modern-ish settings with less extreme-anime-styled graphics (Star Ocean and RoF,) but you also sometimes like the colorful stuff (Eternal Sonata.) However, you also played two that might have fit but never touched after a short period.
Maybe look into Hyperdimension Neptunia, and take a gander at the upcoming Ni No Kuni which comes out in a week or two. There's also a Tales game that came out recently, or is coming out soon, maybe check that one since they have a similar setup to Star Ocean.
