All three have crappy endings spoilers ahead

Star ocean: oh we all live in a mmorpg
Xenosaga: cut short was supposed to have 6 episodes
Mass effect: star child lol

Xenosaga was cut short (the series as a whole; the Shion arc ended with 3) but lol at it having a crappy ending. Xenosaga 3 had one of the best endings ever.

Star Ocean 3 didn't suck, the story did. The items and battle system were great.
Xenosaga was originally planned as 6 games, but the trilogy that was made was one of three intended story arcs. Each story arc was going to be two games long (hence Xenosaga I+II on the DS) but it ended up getting extended to a trilogy, and is basically a re-imagining of the outlined Episode 1 of Xenogears in Perfect Works. Meaning any further arcs would've likely been set thousands of years apart. There's a common misconception that they crammed the content of the remaining games into episode 3, but that's not really true. They may have re-wrote the ending, leaving certain things open-ended to compensate for the fact that they weren't going to get to the other story arcs, but that's probably about it.
