Exactly. I don't care for FF13 (for example) but I have a friend that loves it. He was never much of an RPG player, mostly sports. Although after beating FF13 he was addicted to RPGs. He said "meh" to FF7 and 10. He loved 12 and his favorites are FF6 and Chrono Trigger. He liked Earthbound more than FF13. He played Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia, Lufia 2 and Mario RPG. Out of all of those he disliked FF13 the most but says FF13 is still a good game in it's own right.
Even though I disliked FF13, I respected his opinion just as I respect the opinions of you all on GFaqs. I would never go into a forum and troll people for liking a specific game but I will voice my opinion.
Because while some games are complete crap in every other human's or alien's perspective, there happens to be games that still are good in one way or another that may impact heavily on a certain individual's liking. It doesn't have to be grand, it just has to be good enough for that individual to consider it as an "OK, i had fun" game. Different standards, different liking, different approaches.
If you find a piece of abstract painting in a museum that looks like a 2 year old's mess, no matter how you and your friends think it's silly, there will still be people who will find it a wonderful piece, like the one who put it up in the museum.
