Im kinda like archizzy. I have a 46-inch that i play about 6 feet away from. Although it feels and looks fine, i want to upgrade to 55+ and i would still be fine with my distance. I think it all boils down to personal preference and what you can handle.

new question, why do people prefer gaming at a distance from large tv screens in living room to using a monitor closer to screen?

I sit about 8 ft away from a 77" screen which is @ the THX recommended standard in my home theater. I love the immersion at that distance.

I actually sit much farther away in my living room setup from my 55" plasma

Again, it's all up to your personal preference.
the bitter truth is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. ~ Anton Ego

TC, it depends on the size of your room. So many people go to Future shop or wherever, they see a massive TV and think "This is awesome!" without realizing TV's normally look smaller in the store, and when you get it home you realize how big it actually is, after a few hours of dealing with blinding white light you will understand. lol

Just take the size of your room into account when you buy the TV, if this has been stated already I apologize.

I have a 42 inch and I sit 5 feet away from the TV. It's not that big. I kinda wish I would've gone with a 50 inch for my room (I live alone in a studio apartment)
Playing: Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS), Persona 4 Golden (Vita), Ni No Kuni (PS3), Lego Batman 2 (PS3).
Getting a Wii U next month for Lego City Undercover :)

I own a 55" and sit about 5 feet away normally, so I'd say you're fine.

I always liked the now-defunct 37" models for gaming. I have one in my bedroom, and it's just the perfect size so I don't have to turn my neck or move my eyes much at a comfortable distance. I guess the next best thing is the 40" models, since I consider 32" to be too small.

I thought I was the only one with a 37" in the room.
