Ni NO Kuni.

The word no is in the title for a reason. Pass on it.

If you want an RPG pick up Resonance of Fate or Star Ocean 4 instead.

Of course if you haven't played either of the FFXIII games those are good too.

Lolz at Star Ocean 4. Terrible voice acting makes the game unplayable. Play Ni No Kuni. Great game.

PS3 version has the Japanese voice acting so your point is moot.

Maybe I like to hear English?

Hmm it sounds like I would be pretty disappointed, especially since I've been excited about it for awhile now.

If I could get it for $20 new would that change any of your minds about the game? (I understand paying $60+ makes it hard to enjoy a game with shortcomings)

$20 is a good price for the game. Be prepared to grind for hours on end though, for EXP, money, and familiar-catching.

The EXP grind is on par with most MMOs. You also have to keep armor and weapons up-to-date for twelve characters (three main characters and their three familiars), so you'll spend a lot of time grinding for money. Catching familiars is also luck-based, so you'll have to grind monsters for hours on end to catch the ones that are any good.

If you're a fan of the Dragon Quest games, you'll enjoy NNK.

You can get 1 Million Gold in less than 30 minutes. What Gold Grinding lol?
It's one of the easiest RPGs to get money ever. Even in FINAL FANTASY VII that was extremely easy to get money too, you at least had to do some Grinding to Master that "All Materia".

And experience grind on par with MMOs???? O_O

Less than 30 minutes if you have access to the casino, which you don't get until you're about halfway through the game. What do you do until then? Spend lots of time grinding for money. Even when you do get access to the casino, you'd need a lot of luck to get that much in only 30 minutes.

As far as the EXP grind goes, it is on par with most MMOs. Monsters hardly give any EXP whatsoever, unless you grind Tokos or Tokotokos. If you don't grind those two specific monsters, then you'll end up spending hours grinding for levels on normal monsters. In addition, you need to grind constantly every time you catch a new familiar that you want to use.

Also, since catching familiars is completely luck-based, you'll spend hours trying to catch the ones that are any good since they usually have a very low tame rate (2%-6% for some).

I like Ni No Kuni despite all of its flaws, but don't pretend like the game doesn't require a huge grind for pretty much everything. lol

I can honestly say, this game is charming and very fun. Especially for 20$ the game is a steal. One of the best games i've played in a while.

I tell you what. That vial exchange feels like more than 30 minutes! Should've put the option to exchange in bulks, Level-5...
There is a board for RPG, you know:

I can't really say. I bought it a couple of months ago when GameStop had it on sale for like 35 bucks. I love Studio Ghibli and the artwork of the game so I decided to pick it up. It is INSANELY slow to begin with, I'm talking it felt like 3-4 hours of tutorials and handholding at the beginning which was really annoying as who hasn't played a jRPG by now? Also, while I've put probably 15-20 hours into the title it's really easy for me to pick something else to play over it. Since I've owned it, I've set it down to play Tomb Raider, Injustice, The Last of Us, Bioshock: Infinite and State of Decay as well as a few others. It may just be me though, I don't think I'm into JRPGs or the "grind" anymore as I've gotten older I don't want to spend so much time doing boring or menial tasks when I game, I want to have fun.
I write about games and stuff. Check it out if you want.

How do you feel about the game? Is it worth picking up or should I pass? It's received an 85 on Metacritic and solid scores from most sites but I've read a lot of criticism on here. Granted the Gamefaqs community is vocal about disliking DmC and TLOU, which I enjoy both of those very much, so you never know. Just curious as to what some of your opinions were on the game.

I love the JRPG genre, so would this be a good fit? For what it's worth I loved the art style and music from the demo but wasn't blown away by the battle mechanics.

If you do like JRPGs then its worth a try. My personal opinion is that the gameplay and combat system are very dull. Also I get really tired of the cutsie crap that comes with a lot of JRPGs, and a kid is just not a relatable protagonist.

I don't mind 'cute' but dull is definitely a problem. I don't know if I can enjoy dull even for $20. Hmmm...I've already beaten Far Cry 3 (via a rental) and it's also $20 this week. Should I pick that up again, save my money, or put it towards a few select titles on the big PSN sale?

How bout you watch vids of NNK or just rent the damn game and form an opinion of how it is yourself?

Dont completely pass over a game cause some random dude on the interenet said it was dull. YOU might not find it dull.

That said, dont get a game just cause a random dude on internet said it was awesome.

And what do you define as dull.
