So for as long as I can remember I've always cranked the games I play to the highest available difficulty. Even while testing games out at the local mom and pop shop!

At first, when I was young, it was a badge of honor. Being able to say you played on the hardest mode was like bragging rights. As I got older, I did it out of habit. Now I'm at a place in my gaming career where I just don't care anymore!

Nowadays if I play a game on normal and it is fun I'll run through again on a harder difficulty..

How about you?
Is playing the hardest difficulty mandatory?
Do you frown upon others for playing on less than max difficulty?
If you fell for it, it isn't cheap. It is just something that works on you. Adapt.. Or curl up in the fetal position, your call.

I don't always play on the most difficult setting, but difficulty does matter to everyone. Whether or not that difficulty is easy, hard, or normal.

It has less to do with impressing others than it has to do with the psychological concept of "flow".
I'll get back to you.

Dunno. I normally play on "normal." Then if I feel i like the game and have had a decent understanding of the mechanics, I would play on harder difficulties, esp if playing on harder modes unlock better items/gear. Otherwise I stick to normal.

But that's just me. If you enjoy playing on harder difficulties, then that's great, as long as you enjoy it.

a bit, don't want the game to be too easy that there the game can basically play itself.
I'm a gamer dang it, not a pc gamer or a console gamer, just a gamer.

I play it on easiest first, then skip to hardest if I like the game.

I rarely play it on normal. I like to get a taste for the game first, then crank it to max.

I don't have a lot of time for gaming anymore, so I always set my games on the easiest difficulty so I can run through it and then start another game. Play Like A Raven

I've been gaming for like 25 years at this point. I usually just start on Hard. When I really love a game I will start it again on the hardest difficulty as soon as the credits roll.
Last Played: Civilization V: Brave New World (9.5/10)
Now Playing: StarCraft 2, Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation, The Last of Us, Civ V

Not in RPGs. "harder" means "more hp and more dmg" most of the time.

I usually play on normal the first time, for the perfect experience, you see (unless normal ends up being REALLY EASY, in which case I might start again on a harder difficulty). If I really liked the game I tend to play it again on very hard or whatever the highest difficulty is. Good challenges are always welcome

The older I get the less patience I have for difficult games. I can only take so much BS. lol
