...to recover photos, videos and music? I know getting save data is near impossible, but I have those backed up to sticks.

Yes, it can be connected to any computer to recover photos, music and video files, you just need something to encase and power the drive if you're using a laptop.

If you have any external usb drive laying around, you can dismount it and put the ps3 harddrive in it's encasing and use the y-usb 2.0/3.0 cable that usually comes with those to connect to the laptop.

Google for "Newer Technology Universal Disk Adapter", which are the power and data cables and stuff to make the internal harddrive like an external harddrive.

I have a several externals. I've ordered a Sata 2.5 to USB cable. Will it just connect to the console with that cable and function as an external?
