Honestly, I think ff9 is the last one to have a great soundtrack. XIII's was the worst ever. Too Japanese sounding. Quite forgettable.

I liked the majority of the game's soundtrack.

Also Type-0 has a very good OST. Bravely Default, if you consider it a FF game, has a great OST too.

I don't know what "too Japanese sounding" means. Could you please explain?

You don't have to be Nobuo Uematsu to compose good music. Listen to music of Threads of Fate, Terranigma, Wild Arms 1,2 ad 3. (I Haven't played Wild Arms 4 and 5 so I don't know). Lunar Silver Story Complete and Lunar Eternal Blue Complete. Chrono Trigger, Seiken Densetsu 3. Secrets of Mana. Legend Of Dragoon. Lufia 1 and Lufia 2 Rise of the Sinistrals. Tales of Phantasia. Phantasy Star I, II and IV.

Love Nobuo but Sakimoto's FFXII composing was arguably one of the better ones in the series, and personally its my favorite along with Tactics and VII.

13 is my favorite FF ost. Like classical/ambient music, it's not memorable to the ear but is beautiful once you unpack it through. It has a lot of originality and doesn't use a lot of the "popular chords" that people tend to like and remember. But if you really spend time listening to it it's very atmospheric and creative (it takes your imagination to a new high). The compositions themselves are really complicated and multi-layered. The composer for 13 Masashi Hamauzu also composed the saga series and a good number of songs from ff X ost. He's my favorite composer too haha so i guess i'm biased. But hey it's my taste.

Dang it! Your post (awesome as it is) has reminded me of how bad I want a Wild Arms 6! Which sucks because I know it's not going to happen.
On a mission to beat every Legend of Zelda game (excluding the crappy "non-existent" Phillips CD-i games).
