How about both?

There is after all a weapon swap button.

You honestly can't go wrong with either or both. Greatswords have more mobility but Axes can do a lot of AoE and it's basic hits are multiple attacks, making it good for crits.

They both work great for PvE.

I wouldn't use either for PvP.
Men must be taught as if you taught them not, And things unknown proposed as things forgot.
Shooting blanks, every time, all the time.

The Warrior I play with in tournaments is rank 24 or so, he uses Greatswords/Dual Axes together, his damage output is absurd high.

That's great if they don't know how to cc, kite, and dodge.

For everyone else, you'll need something a bit better.

That mentality can be applied to any profession and trait setup. Everything is viable.

Dual axes are much better at PVP than greatsword. That one greatsword overpowered move is good against the computer, but against a human he'll just roll, or hell, slowly walk out of the way, and then you're screwed.

The twirling move with the axes is movable, meaning that as your opponent is moving away, you can follow them. I like it better.
