Making some more progress here, too. Finished missions 6 and 7 with A ranks. I also did training mission #29 I think, available after mission 6. Did terrible on that. Enemy's anti-tank unit sitting on the capitol really did a number on my troops. Finally won, but with a C rank and I was happy to get that. Have another training mission available, #36, so think I'll take a stab at that before advancing the plot with mission 8. Figure something gets unlocked or there's some reward for beating all the missions/all the training ones, so might as well knock them out.

The T-labeled missions aren't "training", they're "trial" which is what the War Room maps in the previous game were. Some of them will likely be harder for you than the campaign missions.

Ah, that explains a lot. Thought I saw "training" in there somewhere. Regardless, yeah, they do seem to be on the tough side. Went for Trial #36 and failed miserably. Thinking on my next attempt, I may just sit back for the first several rounds, let the enemy planes run out of fuel, then start moving in for the attack. Or may more of an effort just to head for the HQ and capture it.

Meanwhile, did finish mission 8. Took a while on this on, so ended with a B rank (though power and technique were on the low side, too, not just speed). Could have ended it a couple of rounds earlier than I did as I had an infantry on the HQ capturing it, but decided just to hunt down the last couple of enemies and finish the map off that way. With the introduction of the Flare in this game, I suspect we'll be seeing more fog of war missions, but we'll see.

Only a couple fog of war missions.
But most of the time they’re not too much of an issue.

About Fog of War, it's definitely improved in Days of Ruin simply because of the lasting Vision, but it still has clear problems, not the least of which is that damned hiding units in properties it now has. Oh, and this actually includes *AIR UNITS*. >_>

Thankfully, there are only 4 Fog of War missions in the game, including the 2 in the first arc. ....wait. That's not a good sign for the execution of Fog of War.

By the way, I'm going to stream Super Famicom Wars here:

Mission 10 is done. Got an A rank, which surprised me some. Got max points for power and technique, but lost quite a few for speed. Think I went to day 10 or 11 or so, so didn't think I took that long, but guess the game thought otherwise. And while I did wipe out all the enemies, they did a fair bit of damage themselves and I lost a couple of units through carelessness. The fact that you can click and hold on an enemy to see its range is a pretty nice feature. When I remember to use it. Lost a couple of air units to missiles because I wasn't paying attention to how close I was to them. And I'm not saying antitank units are overpowered, but boy howdy do they pack a whollop. Take out tanks, take out planes, can hit from a distance. About the only thing they can't do is move then attack. Anyway, onward to the next mission we go.

So the stream is finished and I actually have a mouthful to say, but certain rules on GameFAQs have my hands tied. The basic rule has sound logic and reasons, as well as its definite place, but there are problems with the lengths to which GameFAQs will enforce it, problems that showcase how they'd ignore potential usefulness in the interest of bureaucracy for its own sake. Let's just say it would be welcome if the Anti-Air Tank could deal 125% base to Infantry, which would mean 1HKO through +20% DEF in the older games.

There are some points that I'm beginning to understand, even if they still don't change the underlying issues involved, partially because the games haven't thought to emphasize flanking better. I'd be up for sharing elsewhere, but unfortunately, some people want to make things political using ad hominems while accusing me of doing the same. They have already harassed me and accused me of doing that to them because of convenient location, something I complained about to a recent figure relating to SFW to showcase their seething lack of empathy when they claim they're somehow made defensive by my paragraphs which I'm forced to do when they arbitrarily downvote me to the point where I can't make terse posts to respond to their spam-responses. It's particularly teeth-gnashing when they'll claim they've been trying to get rid of the troll for years when there's clear evidence to the contrary in their support of a guy who mocks everybody from lust-induced murder victims to makers of Spiritual Successor attempts to the map designers on Advance Wars By Web.

Oh they do have a core motive: "muh pvp." Yes, it's a God awful motive, and it makes the Spiritual Successor maker bashing even less excusable. If they're going to accuse those people of arrogance, they should look in the mirror. What they do is clear-cut cultism akin to what you see happen with Super Smash Bros. Melee, a game that gets popular because of glitch abuse and then its "fans" complain when that stuff gets cut out in later games. Not that Sakurai is perfect--he shouldn't be afraid to use good buffers for SSB's own (intended) sense of energy--but those glitches got cut for valid reasons and now that I think about it, the whole "nerf Greninja" meme gets disgusting when you realize that it happened as a result of people being unwilling to adapt to a clear glitch that was persistently abused by them getting patched. Those people I complain about? They claim you have no business talking about balance if you don't want to learn how to fart better.

These certain people attack me because they look for any scapegoat they can find for their garbage. Fact is, they're just like those *NASTY* competitors in that farce called the newest episode of Star VS The Forces Of Evil from just now. That episode made me want to vomit over the needless hostility and lack of sympathy toward Marco, and it's simply because the competitors made excuses for their clearly excessive nonsense without considering what the other side thinks for one second. Those certain people are no different, and ain't that interesting: THEY MAKE EXCUSES AT ALL, OUT OF THEIR OWN WEAKNESS AT THAT, WHILE SAYING THINGS LIKE "NO JOHNS."

Maybe I could, oh right, post my thoughts about the game design stuff, but sadly, these people want to literally get in the way of that sort of thing any way they can.

Anti-tanks are interesting units in that they're really resilient to everything of their own tech level. They generally require you to tech up to higher quality units to dislodge them (Rockets or Bombers do perfectly excellently) or you need some powered up Bikes or w/e to hit them.

They're really good defensive units, but they're incredibly defensive and not that versatile so they're a middling but specific situation PvP unit.
