IIRC, a pokemon with 2 speed less than another can still go first. 3 or less and the other will always go first using moves of the same priority.

You're 100% wrong.
The faster pokemon ALWAYS goes first when two pokemon use moves of the same priority level, except in Trick Room or when the faster one is holding a Lagging Tail (or the item that works like it).

the way i've seen most is that you alternate going first, making it: opponent, you, you, opponent, opponent, you, you, etc...

If the Speed is the same and the move's priority is the same too, then the game does a coin flip to decide who goes first, then it alternates in each turn. You, him, you, him, you, him.

Sableye called, it asked why you dont love it.

Custap Berry and Quick Claw are also within that exception.
