Just got this fairly recently and have a little more than half the treasures.
The controls work very well. You have a lot of freedom targeting Pikmin on the map (supposedly more so than the gamecube version where you had to get closer to your pikmin to call them) with the wiimote and sensor bar for calling them or throwing them at various places/enemies. It's rather pointer heavy and the camera takes a little getting used to with the Right/Up buttons on the D-pad. Targetting bosses/enemies that are flying takes a little bit of getting used and you'll want to learn how to switch between Olimar and Louie when luring enemies when the second half of the game get's a bit rough. Just be careful about having your pikmin stupidly walk into the water when you try organizing them or having 100 of them following you (it will happen a lot).
