except tier 2 has minimal gains over tier 1 while being exceptionally more expensive

never buy tier 2, buy tier 1 or tier 3

I saved up like 15000 for when I got to level 20.
Double IP weekend was very kind to me.
Level 25, back up to 13000.

Keep in mind armor yellows and MR blues are useful on every champ in every role.

I remember the grind from 20-30 was a very very very long road. 7k is a lot of IP, but if you just focus on getting the first win of the day bonus every day you'll get it pretty quick.

You really don't want to buy champions early on, as there is nothing more painful than realizing than champs come free every week, but runes do not, and they're pretty much mandatory. Thankfully I read posts about it in this board before that happened, so I was saved from that situation (still bought Nasus and Fiddle, so -2700 was gone).
Also, bless the holiday runes.

So costing about as much as a 6300 champion is a problem? You'll use your runes for a long time and many different champions, they're a worthwhile investment.

Not so much a problem as a target. People keep saying, "save save save", but honestly that doesn't give all too clear an idea of how much I actually should be saving.

Dude just play with level 1 runes. It will make you a better player by not playing with an advantage over people... I bought like 1 rune like every 5 matches and slowly built my pages.
