How come Nunu mid isn't a thing?

Infinite sustain, infinite spells, big scaling on his abilities. It's like having a second support on your team as well with his W and slows.

Why isn't this guy played in tournaments more often in the mid lane?

Because going Nunuke is hard to do against any team that has cc. You took your AP nuking/AoE and put it on the guy who has an ult where he literally stands there for 4 seconds. Iceballs will hurt though.

That's because, contrary to your statement, he actually has poor scaling. It is more than the ratios; it is also the number of spells that can do damage. Nunu has only 2 spells that do damage, and one of them is highly unreliable.

He is a beast in lane though.

He's honestly better top, where he can bully melees out of lane constantly and shut their CS down. Kinda like another version of Yorick.
