Hello, I'm Drew, a jungle main who typically bounces around d2/d3 and im finally bringing gamefaqs the jungle guide you fools deserve.

Lets start at the very beginning - jungler selection. I'm going to breakdown every jungler I feel is viable into a classification, and then go through those classifications. Although some junglers should fall into multiple classifications, I will place the jungler in the class I think is most fitting. The current best junglers in each role will be italicized

HIGH EARLY GAME PRESSURE JUNGLERS
Lee Sin
Nidalee
Xin Zhao
Ezreal
Rek'Sai
Olaf
Pantheon

TANKY ENGAGERS
Jarvan
Vi
Rammus
Sejuani

Warwick
Maokai
Skarner
Amumu
Volibear
Zac
Gragas

Nautilus

SQUISHY CARRY JUNGLERS
Kindred
Kayn
Graves
Evelynn
Rumble
Nocturne
Master Yi
Rengar
Elise
Kha'zix
Fiddlesticks
Shaco
Wukong

TANKY CARRY JUNGLERS
Jax
Shyvana
Hecarim
Udyr
Aatrox

MASSIVE TANKS
Dr. Mundo
Chogath
Ornn
Nunu

SUPPORT JUNGLERS
Ivern

I personally believe that jungle has the most options available to them to establish a good team comp for themselves, and good junglers should take advantage of this by having multiple champions from different classifications (listed above) to pick for any occasion. Team needs engage? Pick Jarvan/sej. Needs damage? grab that kha. Need a fatty frontline? grab mundo. Unless you are a first pick jungler, you NEVER have the excuse of having a bad team comp. If you're not a one trick, pick around your team. Here is where I stress to not pick based on what is OP, pick what you play and what you know (but its best to know the op's).

RUNES AND MASTERIES

Runes: Attack Speed reds are king. Take attack speed reds on EVERY jungler except: Fiddle, Kha'zix, Kayn, Ivern, Eve
Take flat ad on kha/kayn, magic pen on eve and fiddle, and honestly it doesnt matter at all what you take on ivern.

AD quints on ad champs, ap quints on ap champs, some tanks can get by with armor or hp quints as well. Armor yellows are always nice for clear. Scaling MR > flat mr in the jungle as you have very little champion interaction vs magic damage early. Consider flat mr into only matchups such as eve elise or nidalee. On carry junglers test out cdr blues or flat ap blues and see what you personally prefer

MASTERIES:
Again, im not going to walk you though an ideal mastery set up for every jungler, champion.gg has this info at the ready for you anytime. Just remember than greenfathers gift works on jungle camps and is very efficient, and that again, attack speed is better than ability damage on 75% of junglers. It makes your clears a breeze.

At this point, we should be getting into gameplay

STARTING POINT:
Raptors start is very efficient, whether it be raptors - buff - buff or a 5 camp clear to lvl 4. Raptors start allows both your bot lane and top lane to push level one for a level two advantage, which can really snowball some lane matchups.
Champs that can do leashless raptors healthily:
Sej
Rammus
Jax
Maokai
Chogath
Mundo
Nidalee
Amumu
Master Yi
Hecarim
Kayn
Zac
Rumble
Gragas
Graves
Olaf

If you are not one of these champs, honestly just start at your bot lane buff. Better leash = healthy clear

How to play the early game:
JUNGLERS WITH WEAK EARLY
Look to clear your jungle safely and look for counter ganks. Play around securing both your buffs against early invading junglers and then play around scuttle crabs to secure a safer early game for your laners. Good ward placements are exits of the enemies jungle, so your laners and yourself have time to see them and react for a counter gank. Counter jungle only when you have eyes on the enemy jungler on the other side of the map or when your laners are pushed up and have priority to push up and follow an invade before the enemy laner could come. If you are playing a weak early jungler, you're likely playing an engage tank or support style jungler (aka a beta jungler). Even if you have a weak bot lane (vayne, kog, rakan) etc setting up vision bot lane is a priority so they can dodge ganks and safely farm. Rememer - if lanes are getting dove and pressured it IS your responsibilty to be there and help and counter the dive.

JUNGLERS WITH STRONG EARLY
Congratulations, you're a chad alpha jungler looking to snowball early like a real man.
Priorities with strong early game - invade, take camps and buffs, take dragons, and dive lanes.

Buff - wolves - buffs - enemy buff or raptors - buff - buff - enemy buff EVERY single f***ing game. f*** with the enemy, get in their head, tilt them, take their s***, make them rage. Nothing is more frustrating than someone constantly invading your jungle.
Look for early dives with strong early laners and set up shop in someones lane. Whichever lane you play around, play around in HARD. Dive that lane, take that side of the jungle, and then repeat gank taht side over and over. Basically get you and a lane uber fed or die trying. Sometimes its not gonna work, but thats okay. The more you work at it the bettr you will get.

DECIDING A SMITE ITEM
This is fairly simple. Dueling power? take red smite. Getting kited? take blue smite. Need vision to protect your jungle or to better invade the enemy? get green.

WHAT LANE(S) TO PLAY AROUND
Are you a carry jungler with little cc? Play around strong cc lanes, like a thresh bot lane or a maokai top to get yourself strong and ahead early.
Are you a carry jungler with cc? Try and play around your mid laner and force 2v2 with the enemy mid and jungler. This way you can snowball both yourself and your mid
Are you a big boy tank? Perma camp bot lane, dive as much as you can (AFTER SECURING VISION)!!! and then let yourself get carried by forcing fights when your bot lane is ahead.

If your bot half of the map is strong (or infernal is up) play around drake. If top is strong, play around herald, especially if they're a high split push threat.

The key to forcing early objectives (first tower, dragon, herald) is vision, in tandem with pushing lanes. Always grab one or two pin wards per back and use them to deny vision from the enemy team and do set up future ganks, such as pinking brushes bot, or tri behind bot lane to set up dives on tp's.

WARDING FOR INVADES AND GETTING INVADED
Ward river, ward river, ward river. All entrances to your jungle are from the river. All exits from the enemy jungle are in the river. Keeps eyes on the enemy jungler that way, as it is very safe. when you are stronger, look to set up pink wards behind the enemy red buff and in the bush by raptors. Red side jungler is better to invade almost always because when you are ahead, denying the high cs camps, (raptors and golems) denies the enemy jungler more catchup xp along with a SAFER invade due to easier blast cone access and krugs, raptors having much easier escape paths than wolves.
REMEMBER
Farming enemy jungle camps > farming your own. When you are top lane blue side and you see the enemy jungler on bot, what should you do? Maybe your gromp and wolves are up, but his raptors and krugs are too.

It is more beneficial to deny his camps and then farm your own rather than farm your own and then risk either not getting to his camps in time OR him meeting you at his camps after youve farmed yours and possibly dying in a duel.

Eventually you'll gain a sense of the jungle and where the enemy is, but until you do, the easiest way to track camps is to keep track of the enemy junglers cs. If they enemy jungler appears top lvl 3 with 5 cs, its a sure thing they did buff wolves buff, same thing with 8 cs, they did raptors buff buff.
Raptors 6 cs
Krugs 10 cs (some junglers only take 6 when ahead but not in lower elo)
Wolves 3 cs
Buffs and gromp - 1 cs ea

Track the enemies cs numbers and you will be able to see which camps are up and which are taken. If you gain vision on a dead camp the minimap will show you when the camp respawns and you can contest them. Raptors are the easiest and the best camp to contest, just be careful for enemy support roams and keep vision on the enemy mid. Its better to give up the camp than to give up kills to the enemy team. Greedy isnt good.

Hope this gives you a good idea and some fresh tips on jungling, and please feel free to ask any more specific questions you may have!

also ezreal jungle is brainless cancer, against it start your top side buff and then go straight to other buff otherwise its gone, if you ever see him flash immediately or you die.

I'd take out some of the meta specific quips because they won't make sense 2 months from now, unless you plan on making version 2,3,4, etc. with each new shift.

However, sticky requested
Why is it called 'common sense' when it is so rare these days?

Well, there's a fair amount of champs that work in the jungle that aren't on the list. Twitch, Tryndamere, Teemo, Quinn, Poppy, Malphite, Shen, Ekko, Fizz.

Maybe Twitch and Quinn out of those. Working doesn't mean working well

Great guide. Only things i can think of mentioning

Should elise be under a different category from lee sin and Nidalee? Im not really an elise expert so I'm just wondering.

Also rengar can soloclear raptors pretty easily with either jungle item. With the blasting cone and machete he can build up enough ferocity to burst them very quickly, and with talisman, his aoe q will heal him more than the raptors can hurt him.
