Not counting game villains from the really early video game eras, of course. I think it's only fair to compare Uncharted 2 with other games of its time. But to me, it just seems as if they weren't even trying for originality when making Lazarevic's character. If anything, they wanted to make a generic and shallow antagonist on purpose, so they used a cookie-cutter mold to make him. There's hardly a thing original about this guy, and plus he builds on the stereotype of the Husky Rusky as a super tough, diabolical, ruthless villain like from the James Bond films. Did Naughty Dog make him that way on purpose? I mean it's not like Marlowe and Talbot from Uncharted 3 were any better, but that game wasn't so great to begin with...

Well what kind of villain would he be if he wasn't tough, diabolical and/or ruthless?

Plus his bossfight was an absolute pain, even on normal difficulty (only managed to pull it off once on Hard, never attempted Crushing). James Bond always had it way easier. No laser watches, submarine cars or exploding pens for Nathan Drake.

He's pretty generic, but that's sort of the point. Uncharted packages familiar action-adventure tropes into a video game, the same way the Indiana Jones series packaged those tropes into Hollywood movies. Before that, these tropes came from radio series, movie serials, comics, adventure novels, etc. It's all part of a story-telling heritage.
