do u think it'll take place in the 1930s during the great depression?

if that's the case, it might have to be the end of the series there because any time forward in time will be too strange and antiquaited because the mysticism of the west will be gone by then.

no more gold rushes or 'somewhat primitive, lawless culture' or use of horses as means of transportation or frequent carrying of guns in public.

and not to mention that trains, electricity and cars directly threaten the preservation of the culture of the old west.

Were there any remnents of the Old West by 1930? In any case, going back too far in time would put the next Red Dead in that cliche time period of "Shootin' Injuns" and looking for gold in them thar hills.
The American Revolution or Civil War could be interesting for missions, and I'm sure Rockstar would do something much more original than previous Western games, but the typical natives and gold-hunting are very old.
The addition of Cthulhu improves everything. Seriously, try to think of any movie, game or book that wouldn't benefit from our dark master.

civil war area would be cool, I'm an Aussie but i'm also a history buff and from what i have read that time in history could make for an awesome game.

19th century Europe would be interesting. Who says we have to stay in America?

Or Western frontier in early 19th century America, but here the guns would be annoying.

What about a game about when John was together with Dutch, Javier and Bill?
And maybe something that could tie Red to John.
By the way which year occurs Red dead revolver?

I see no real reason why they can't keep it in the same time period and just have a different location and storyline.
GT : Valt7786
SSF4 : Dudley, Guile, Juri on the side.
