Hey, I need some help on how to make some effective teams.

I know how to EV train and I am about to start for this game. I would like to know what hotspots there are in Johto to EV train.

The main thing I would like to know is what a good pokemon team needs to consist of. Also how do you go about finding pokemon that work well together.

In my experience of EV training I have found that I usually train 3 pokemon teams consisting of a defensive physical lead/sweeper, a special sweeper and a bulky recovering sweeper. For example a Swampert, Infernape and Latias was my most effective team. I made 3 pokemon teams for the battle tower but have never made a 100 streak.

So back on topic what advice can you give me on how to create effective 6 pokemon teams?

Just mix and match; basically try to have a each defensive/offensive type on your team. I like to use this when building my teams:

It gives you an overview of what you're weak/resistant too. After you input your pokes you realize where you have some major weaknesses (for example, you may not have realized that you have 3 pokes super effective against one type). Those are the main things you want to avoid imo.

for EVs-

for teambuilding, if it's in-game, it doesn't matter, just use whatever you want. competitively, lurk around smogon.com and learn more about the current metagame, then try to develop a team you think can stand up to the current threats.

I am in-game atm but would like to EV train now because I love making the game last a long time. I have already played 80+ hours and haven't even bet Jasmine yet. My 3 pokemon atm are Feraligatr, Togetic and Espeon each at lv55.

I was also wondering if these pokemon could work well together.
Feraligatr
Togekiss
Espeon
Scizor
Kingdra
(suggestions please)

I really need a ground type to cover electric type pokemon.
How good is Mamoswine? And can I get him pre elite four?

Mamoswine is solid, you can get him at the Ice Cave before Blackthorn.

Sweet.
So would these pokemon be able to work well together?
Feraligatr
Togekiss
Espeon
Scizor
Kingdra
Mamoswine

I was thinking that Scizor would be my lead with bullet punch, u-turn, roost and swords dance. That should be an alright start but without a Mamoswine for stealth rock coverage the team would be a little lackluster. Feraligatr and Kingdra will be physical/special respectively so I can maintain warterfall and surf in-game. I was thinking of making my Espeon a speedy baton passer for kingdra or togekiss with Kingdra being the sweeper while togekiss employs the status+flinch tactic.

If not I can always train them to be sweepers and find a good team for them post elite four.
