I keep reading references to characters' vortexes (such as Ibuki). What is a vortex?

It's a situation that's really hard to escape from, with Ibuki her vortex is with the kunai, it's hard to tell which side it'll hit you on and if you block incorrectly then you eat a combo from Ibuki which she can end with a neckbreaker, allowing her to restart the vortex.

El Fuerte has a vortex too with his slide, tostada press and tortilla grabs, Zangief too with ambiguous crossups and tickthrows.

basically, it's wakeup games. if you have your opponent knocked down, and you have a wide variety of options to keep your opponent down and guessing

for Zangief, if he knocks you down, he can use a tick throw, he can start cross up combo's, he can use a command throw...

to escape, you have to guess whether to wakeup counter, throw tech, or jump, guess wrong and you'll get knocked down again and it starts all over. you oly have a 33% chance of guessing right and escaping
SF IV Main: Zangief, alts Ken, Guile, Juri and Makoto
You have to do stronger than that!!
