I thought it meant "sir" but considering its being used on females too I'm a little confused at what it's supposed to mean?

It could still be a general term of respect.

In origins both men and women in respectable positions were called "ser".
There's a thin line between love and hate. So what's the opposite of love then? That's easy, indifference.

I used to hate it when everyone was saying serah and being so stuffy all the time, but then I looked up the definition. Its old world lingo. Refers to a particular "feminine hygiene product"
