I would rather have an original series in the ME universe than a retelling of Shepard's story. Most of the people who would watch would have played the trilogy through anyway.
That is like saying no one watching Game of Thrones read the books. If ME can look enticing it can draw non gamers. Going with proven, popular characters only helps the ratings, despite the bumps in the ME story.
Game of Thrones isn't a choose-your-own-adventure. Not a great analogy.
Stop blaming CoD for everything you don't like, or I'm going to slap your pretty mouth.
They should do a TV series set in the Mass Effect universe but with new characters and a new plot. A TV show or a film based on Shepard's story would be pointless (it's a story that's already been told and is personal to each individual player) and making either a male Shepard or female Shepard, or Liara as a LI or someone else, would just alienate all the people that chose something different. It would be terrible. A TV series set in the same universe would be great.
Biggest issue with a Mass Effect TV series is budget lol.
