Actually, bad example. At least the GBC added something substantial to its predecessor: color and a bit more raw power. DSi adds little onto the DS (especially if we're talking Lite) and even takes away GBA support. It kind of fails.
That, and GBC was an original system with its own line of games, DSi is an upgrade without much in the way of exclusivity.
