Seems like there are enough adopters out there already yet every news story I see paints it negatively, it sold 375,000 of 400,000 in its opening and that doesnt seem so bad either

but every news outlet I see paints it in a negative light

I remember hearing the 3DS was the fastest selling console ever. Just like what they said about the DS... and the Wii... and the 360, PS2, PS1, Game Boy Advance...
So is the 3DS actually selling bad enough to be considered a failure, or just not as well as Wii/ DS did?

The hardware itself isn't but the games.... is another story.

Can we stop judging the systems economic future until we say how it really sells during the holiday season? So far it has sold well.

It's selling pretty well but it just hardly enough good games at the moment. It just mainly ports. For what it worth I was more disappointed with the DS, PS2, PS3, PSP, and Wii launches. The 3DS is doing better in that regard IMO. But this is just the first few months. It will likely become a beast just like the original DS.

A gamer should want as many games as possible, from as many different genres as possible,on as many different systems as possible, for as many people as possible

I think it needs more advertising, I play an MMO game and when I told the people that I play with that I bought a 3DS recently I was shocked to find that most didn't know what it was.

Also it needs more good games, wasn't interested in buying it until this month when OoT came out.

Edit: Oops its July already, I meant last month lol.

I agree they have to market it better.

I think many people equate 3DS with the old style DS (original, lite, DSI) they think its just another iteration of the same system.

Nintendo should have made a greater effort to distinguish it from the older models, it even looks like a ds lite/ DSI

it sold 375,000 of 400,000

the 3DS has sold over 3.6 million worldwide so far. it did well over 300 - 400 thousand during launch. It sells close to 100 thousand a week.

it's a little slow but I wouldn't say it's struggling.
