It seems 80 bucks is too large of a price drop <___<;, why not just do 199.99? The lesser fanboys will still buy it and ravage it, even the casual audience will look at 199.99 and think it's cheap.

But 169.99, that's awesome. So the DSis/DS Lites have been selling at a mass profit for the same price point for years, and the 3DS drops to the DSi's original price this quickly?

Nintendo only does things for profit. I'm sure they'll be making profit.

Well if they covered the research and development they should be making a profit still, though 200 would be a decent price

The 3d display is the only thing that is really new about the 3ds that would raise costs on production, im guessing nintendo64 still makes a little profit on this

I would say they will probably break close to even or take small losses until production prices drop. Their screen technology and video hardware are unique to the 3DS (video hardware has been custom designed for this machine). I cannot see the machine costing less than $180 to make. Who knows. They will make a lot of profit on game sales and the eShop.

Yes. Gamecube made profit even when it was $100. In fact GC made more profit than PS2 for the first 3 years even though it was selling like crap. Nintendo overcharge for everything because they know their fanbase wil eat it up. Wii was $250 when it came out..$250!!!!! for what is eswsentially an enhanced Gamecube with motion senser. They even charged $60 for mote/nunchuk bundles.
