Why didn't they release the system at $170 in the first place?

There are other links from Bloomberg Japan, etc.

People wanted to think that Nintendo was super-greedy, and was overpricing the 3DS by an extreme amount. Well, they weren't.

Maybe they shouldn't have included something as expensive and useless at the same time as 3D then.

I thought someone said it only costed $101 to make a 3DS, are they seriously selling at a loss?

Let me give you the 101 on that $101: it's not $101.

Too bad, clearly it does, and the graphics ARE amazing by today's standards. When it was announced people were going nuts over it. Just because the Vita was announced, which has slightly better graphics,

How many topics are there going to be on this?

The DS cost $97 at launch on parts while the 3DS is $101 to $103. Labor, shipping and the percent of money retailers take in since the DS has not changed.

Since the parts cost is similar and every other cost remains unchanged, how is the 3DS selling at a loss at $170 when the DS was making a profit at $150?

Did the DS sell at $20+ more of a loss than the 3DS is selling now?

The amount of other costs you guys are posting about are ridiculous as well. The ps3 sold at a loss of $250 to $300 on parts alone. If you add $80 ($101+$80=$181) the other costs you guys are talking about that make the 3DS sold at a loss then

PS3 sold at $600
Parts loss= $250-$300 = $850-$900
$80-$100 other costs

The PS3 cost Sony around $1000 to produce? LOL

Labor, shipping, etc, probably costed less 5 years ago.
Your entire life has been a mathematical error. A mathematical error I'm about to correct.
