Neither one were "classics" until Nintendo simply said "they're classics, OK?"

I'm one of the very few people here who actually had Kid Icarus on NES. It was -ok-. Not amazing by any stretch of the imagination. Granted, I've never played the Game Boy one, so I'll give the possibility that maybe it's a classic. But as far as I'm concerned, there's no legitimate reason to get excited Kid Icarus as a franchise.

Now, Uprising could turn out to be an awesome game and I hope it does. But I am sitting here, wondering how any of you manage to hail it as the "glorious return of a long-wanted classic!"

What?

Kid Icarus is about as much of a classic to me as Bayou Billy.

There is far more to Kid Icarus than Ice Climbers.

Hardly. Kid Icarus was not a very complex game. On the scale of complexity it's somewhere between a game like Pitfall and something more modern, like Super Mario Bros.

The autoscrolling was very arcade-like, which bothered me.

Who cares if franchises are classics?. maybe people should just enjoy the games no matter if they're popular or not?. all these new Eshop games aren't "classics" yet to me they're better than anything being offered at retail on other systems...

Kid Icarus on NES wasn't popular because it wasn't a particularly compelling game.

Actually, it sold 1.76 million copies worldwide which then was very good.
