Or do they just pretend it's not that big of a deal and nobody really wants it?

I remember seeing a topic on Nintendo official tech forum back with the Wii. An admin there replied that at least their system didnt have as much problem as others with people sharing their games everywhere. Which was of course total BS.

Probably because of game sharing.

Which is not even prevalent. It's inexcusable. Nintendo is already so far behind in online systems, and they're not getting better. It's 2013 and I still cannot share my downloaded titles across my Wii, WiiU and 3DS.

It's just completely idiotic.

It certainly means something: 2012 has come and passed. It's high time Nintendo finally listens to customer criticisms from the last 6 years and act like a competent video game company. It's awful business practices like this or region locking that makes system hacking so prevalent.
Goodbye Chewy. You were the best friend I could ask for. Rest in peace, buddy.

That doesn't sound like a plus for consumers, only Nintendo's interests. So basically Nintendo's only reason to have something that harms individual consumers is for their personal greater good?

it means everything. it means that "NNIDs" are just a replacement for friend codes and that their online hasn't changed one bit. you only need to look at the whole 2nd hand wii u articles for proof of this.
