the next Pokemon should be a furry dating sim.

It should, only for the massive butthurt that would bloom from such a game.

Except the series does need radical change. Pokemon battles should be real-time as seen in the anime.

That just means we should get a Pokemon themed Smash Bros...not an entire change to the series. Pokemon would lose so much money if they changed the series dynamic.

Yes, and the next Zelda should be an SRPG, and the next Metroid should be a Visual Novel, and the next Fire Emblem should be an FPS.

You see how dumb those ideas are? That's what happens when you change regular gameplay for a series.

it should totally be like the anime it should take 20 weeks to reach a gym leader and some gym leaders should be unwinable the first time.
they should make it so no matter how you try you can never be league champion.

you should lose all your pokemon except one when you go to another region, the one you keep gets reset to level five. they should tell you arbok evolves into seviper and it doesn't.

Wait, did he seriously never win a conference/ beat the E4? I stopped watching sometime around Hoenn and I thought he won at least the Orange Islands.

he won the orange islands but that was filler so it doesn't really count.

You people are taking this way out of hand. I'm not saying it should be exactly like the show, what I'm saying is that real-time battles are better representations of how pokemon battles would play out in a more realistic representation of the series. And no, I'm not advocating making the game entirely realistic, but there are certain elements like a real-time battle system which would result in much great immersion into the series. Essentially fleshing out a fantasy world.

Also, you're all assuming that real-time means making the game an Action RPG when in fact a proper system would actually make it more like a RTS. You seem to forget that even with the turn-based system we have now, you aren't directly controlling the pokemon, you are the trainer issuing commands to your pokemon. It would be the same with a real-time system, you're the trainer issuing commands to the pokemon which itself is controlled entirely by the AI. Switching to a real-time system allows for significantly greater diversity in battles as well as substantially increasing the level of strategy that can be applied. It would make battles much more dynamic and intense.

And "don't fix what isn't broken," isn't always good advice. If you follow that line of thought too much you end up stagnating, like the series is right now. All the changes between Gen1 and Gen5 have been overall fairly minor, Pokemon is still very much the same game it was 15 years ago. Sure, it's not a bad game, but it's just the same game over and over again.

there's a difference between completely abandoning the core gameplay innovation.
if you want battles more involved then something like ni no kuni or paper mario would work.

the appeal of turn based combat is simple it allows me to THINK about my next move. besides real time battles would render the speed stat useless, because which ever trainer attacks first automatically goes first...

What they should do is make the battles in the anime turn based. That would solve everything.

If you want real time battles just play a different RPG. That's not what Pokemon is about.

This is like demanding Zelda be a platformer. I mean, why not just look for a game that suits your desired gameplay style rather than demand a radical shift in a game that has refined it's gameplay over multiple iterations?

It's ridiculous to demand a series change styles entirely. Fire Emblem should be an action / adventure game. Zelda should be a sidescrolling platform game. Pikmin should be a strategy RPG. Pokemon should be a real time RPG. Mario should be a dating sim.

It just doesn't make sense to demand a series change styles.

Dont they already have pokemon games that are real time battles? Like mystery dungeon or something?

In general im a fan of turn based rpgs cuz i feel real time battle r just button mash fests and i like having control over my entire party without having to resort to adjusting my a.i. settings. I like realtime battles but i love turn based. Of course it all depends on how good the game is overall n how the story/characters resonate with me.

Also, pokemon is simple rock paper scissors fun, y change it if its still fun?

also there's the fact that changing it once makes a domino effect.

scenario they make a game exactly like you want then they make the next game a puzzle game to prevent stagnation, then a furry porn simulation to do the same[while i wouldn't mind a spinoff like that,it wouldn't be acceptable for the main series],a platformer to prevent stagnation,a halo clone to do the same yada yada yada

every time you change the style it's a kick in the b***s to those who loved THAT style.

@above poster at this point they might as well they already abandoned the core gameplay[imo] exploration in 4 of the last 7 games

I'd rather he works on whatever the hell he wants. Sakurai is proving that freedom of ideas is where good games come from. Not just making sequel after sequel.
