Virtue's Last Reward is the better of the two games, but you must play 999 first. Period. You will get soooo much more out of VLR with 999s story already played through. Trust me.

What everyone else is saying. 999 is an amazing game that you NEED to play first, which lasts about 30 hours on its own. Virtue's Last Reward on the other hand, I'm currently around the 12 hour mark and I've only gone down 1 and a half of the timelines. I still have many, MANY other paths and puzzles to finish. At this rate, the game is looking like it will last around 50 hours. Paper Mario wont last that long.

How do you know everyone else posting hasn't?

As for me, VLR but play 999 first if you can. Particularly if you like visual novels and reading. It's a great story with some devious puzzles. Not Layton puzzles either, these actually make sense given the environment and plot rather than random brainteasers.

They said Paper Mario didn't need a story...so they made sticker star...and they where wrong.

Go with VLR all the way.

I haven't played Paper Mario: SS, but if you like a good story, I highly recommend Virtue's Last Reward. Like what everyone else said, it's also recommended that you play 999 first as playing throughout all of VLR will reveal what happened at the end of 999 and the emotional/shock impact at the end of VLR will be so much more significant. VLR is currently my GOTY of 2012 (Haven't played all of 2012's AAA titles), but that's my opinion. xAD

Kinda doubt you've played VLR, to be honest. And several other posters implied that they had played PM anyhow.

I have played both. What now?

Also, you may as well delete your sig, because it'll never happen.
