It's a lot of fun and a great entry into the series even though it's on a handheld until the game that came before it.
Of course I'm talking about Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate.
Yes IGN gave it a bad score. Ignore it. If you look at Metacritic their score is on the extreme end.
It's the new must have game on 3DS!
I'll be honest with you. The game IS good, but suffers from the same fanbase obsession as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. It's a very good game, but a mediocre Castlevania game. But that actually isn't the games fault. It's our (the fans) fault for thinking Castlevania can and must always be Metroidvania, regardless of other people's tastes. With that aout of the way, I have to disagree with you anyway. Like I said, the game is good - but that doesn't stop the combat from being rather static and repetitive (dodge, attack, rinse and repeat...). Stripping the exploration part from it only adds to that flaw. But also helps keeping the focus on the combat part, making the fights seem a bit more intuitive.
