The haters always seem to make it to these topics first.....

But yeah, you should get it it and give it a try at the very least. I remember from one topic that this board gave the game an 80-something % approval rating so most people here do like it, you may too.

Posting to say I'm sold. Going to place an order for it right now. It's kind of funny since I don't even have a 3DS yet, but I figure since this is likely going to become very hard to find soon it would be better to have it in its wrapping collecting dust on a shelf for a few months rather than buy a 3DS in said few months and find I can't get it.

Anyway, thanks all for the informative replies.

You should enjoy it, I thought it was really good (PS2). It's a pretty long game and there is a lot of replay value with the new game plus options if you really enjoy it. I thought the story and characters were good (not great but not bad either), but the character interaction is what really shines(besides the gameplay) in the Tales games that I played.

I liked it a lot. It's not for everyone, as indicated by the responses.
I'm clever, vaguely feminine, a vampire, and I wield Dice. PH33R.
The 3DS and PSVita are both outstanding systems. Wally the Equality Weasel says so.

I would definitely say it's worth picking up; it's not only my favorite 3DS game, but my favorite PS2 game as well.

Some will say that the story is stupid, but I enjoy it; it throws you in some rather strange directions and at parts makes you question aspects of life. If you enjoy pseudo-science the world is definitely a good one, the game even goes as far as to make its own definition of what matter consists of.

The main argument against the game is annoying characters. Sure, they can be irritating at time....but they're actually supposed to be. The main character is a spoiled rich aristocrat who starts out as annoying (albeit funny) lil' b****. After an irreparable event occurs in the game's story he starts to develope into an admirable young man. Also, Jade is easily (IMO) the best character in the entire "tales of" series. Sometimes I think people hate on the characters for not being the annoying (often overly heroic seeming) ToS cast, or the edgy main character of ToV.

The combat system is easily the game's best feature. It's fun, fast, and addictive. On the harder difficulties it can really test you as a player. It's as complex as it needs to be without letting the complexity be a burden. I think this game (and ToV) was the high point in the "Tales of" series as far as gameplay is concerned. I believe later "tales of" games such as Graces overcomplicated the battle system and ruined the simple yet deep fun.

The one issue is that people complain about the pacing, which I can agree with to an extent. There are many slow, more political parts of the game that have you going on fetch quests to talk to NPCs around the game's world. I enjoy this kind of fantasy political drama, but I can see how it can be a nuisance to some.

Please note that I'm not really wishing to bash any of the other "Tales of" game; it's just that I simply find this one superior. The only "Tales" game I really didn't enjoy was Graces.

Very well put.

I enjoyed my back to back runs through this game and had started on a third until I picked up FE:A, EO IV and Castlevania.

Definitely in my top 5 current favorites on the 3DS.
Never argue with an idiot. They just drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

I found the story to be interesting but the amount of dialog to be tedious. I wish the rest of the game was more like the last 5 hours. More boss battles, more exploration and less back-tracking through the same cities over and over.

I found the fighting system to be a little too easy. Could pretty much mash the buttons, no learn the magic system and beat the game.

Personally, I enjoyed KH3D more and think that Fire Emblem would be a better buy based on how much of it I have played thus far.

Its a good RPG. What I don't like is the last chunk of the game keeps going on circles and repeating the same things over and over I just want the characters to shut up and end it already. Tedious towards the end, but overall a fun ride.
