Considering that i hear more about it than the rest of the SMT games besides Nocturne and maybe Strange Journey, I've been wondering if this is the case. A spin off series being more popular than the main series of a franchise, interesting. :P
My theory on this is Persona 1 and 2 along with the mainline SMT are actual RPGs which is the problem. Persona 3 and 4 are mostly story driven social sims with a little bit of RPG gameplay here and there.

I Loled at the image of Cena with the Atlus logo on his shirt looking all manlyXD. Also offtopic but funny thing about him is that He has stated before in the past(dont remember where) that he is a huge Hokuto No Ken(Fist of the north star) fanboy, so in a way the fact that he represents the "manly" SMT fans in the photo is pretty funny.
