Going to get one of these two games today...I was at first only considering LM2...but then I read that they force you to use the horrible controls where you are locked in facing a direction once you start sucking. I hated that in the first, and used the other control scheme, and that really, really killed my buzz for it.

Fire Emblem Awakening...well I've only ever tried the Wii one, but I was terrible at it, because of the perma-death. I'm not normally into RPGs, but I think I could get pulled in easily, and enjoy it more thanks to casual mode.

What say you 3DS board.

Go with FE cause they've included Casual Mode this time, no more permadeath.

Fire Emblem. You can just play on casual if you're not into permadeath. So much extra content both free and paid make it worthwhile also.

I am a new DS owner and man I can not put down FE for the life of me.

I'm forcing myself a break from it because I want to play Resident Evil and have only played 15 minutes of LM.

Fire Emblem. LM2 is actually pretty good once you get used to it, but FE is a much better game.

I put in about 40 hours in FE so far, mostly just a single playthrough taking my time, I'll get back into it at some point. I haven't purchased any of the DLC.

I'm about 20 hours into LM, and just getting to the fifth mansion. The locked into one direction while using the vacuum isn't that big of a deal.

Two very, very excellent games. if controls is your concern on Dark Moon I wouldn't worry. yeah I mean I guess you get locked one way once you charge up, but it is still easy to catch ghosts.

FE and LM are so different. for multiplayer, charm, and uniqueness, go LM. for strategy, customization, and sheer content, go FE.

If you're not using perma-death, you're doing it wrong. If you end up really liking Fire Emblem as a series, the older games don't have the casual option. Your strategy will end up being really bad if you go back to the older games if you play fast and loose with character deaths.
