With the advent of the Wii and the rise of the Nintendo DS, Nintendo decided to bring in an entirely new audience in to the world of Video games in addition to their main fanbase of kids and teenage nerds. The adult folk who didn't have much knowledge about video games and get them to play games. The thing is however, this wasn't the first time Nintendo has done it. Belive it or not, Nintendo did in fact, market to the casual gamer way before Motion controls and Touch Screens. Take a look at these commercials.

Right off the bat you can tell who else Nintendo was trying to pitch the Game Boy to, and thanks to the pack-in choice of Tetris, the Game Boy also became popular with older audiences as well.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain. unfortunately i chose the former.

Duh, how else is Nintendo going to make money? Fans are too finicky and can never please 100% of them. Plus nobody was really a "gamer" back then as games were just a fun past time.
Who would win in a fight? Lemmy or God?

The issue was not marketing to non-gamers, the issue was forgetting about the gamers for the non-gamers during the Wii era.

If they really did, then why did we still get

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Wario Land Shake it
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Batalion Wars 2
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
Xenoblade
Zelda TP & SS
