It's not hard at all for me. Dawn of Sorrow is not only my favorite DS Castlevania, but my favorite Metroidvania period. I really do think it's the closest the series has got to perfecting the formula, even though it's not perfect by any means. Portrait is fine, but suffers from severe abuse of copypasting near the end. It was pretty lazy design on their part. Ecclesia is fine too, even though it too has the copypaste problem (although it's more scattered through the game). It's the hardest of the three, that's good, but at the same time I was not a fan of the map design.
Dawn of Sorrow's only real flaw was that stylus stuff to finish bosses. Order kind of dragged on a bit in spots, but it didn't have completely rehashed environments like the second half Portrait of Ruin did.
Dawn's an A-, Order's a B+, Portrait's a B-. They're all good at the very least.
