I already finished Awakening and need a new Fire Emblem game to play. Fates is the next one on my list.

Aren't you supposed to quote the source when you have the space to do so?

I probably should. It's actually from MF DOOM.

Probably Birthright since its easier. It's also the "good guy" story.

Then after play Conquest because it's harder and from the "bad guy" family's point of view.

If you still want more play Revelations which is DLC that combines elements of both stories.
I like games and anime. My favorite games include the following: Mother 1-3, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Cross, Zelda LA-ALttP-OoT-MM-ALBW, and Super Smash Bros.

Birthright is apparently the filthy casual mode, so get Conquest.

I do want to enjoy the story as well as play the game.

Based on the fan response, I'd say Fates might not be for you.

Oh lord, did you even read the dialogues in Awakening? It was insultingly bad.

Well, Fates is worst.

If gameplay isn't as big for you skip it all together than and try Echoes. The story in Fates is insultingly bad. I wouldn't say Echoes is amazing but it is leagues better. That said Echoes gameplay isn't great for most people.
