The Switch is not the 3DS successor. If anything, the Switch is a unification of handheld and console, but it's considered a home console, the successor to the Wii Ugh.

But Nintendo said it's not :)

They also said the NX wasn't the successor to the Wii U either. Just look at all the huge releases its had lately!

Stop calling the Switch the NX.

At this point it's pretty obvious guys. If they really had another dedicated handheld planned then we wouldn't be getting a main series Pokémon game on switch.

Other than that, dedicated handheld gaming is dying thanks to the mobile market

I don't think that's the case. It's just that no one can seem to match Nintendo when it comes to portable handhelds.

3DS and PSVita both sold significantly less than their less gen counterparts. You argue this was due to a multitude of reasons but one of the main ones is clearly the rise of mobile gaming.

Just like when Nintendo said the DS was not the successor to the GBA, right?

The GBA was able to play GB and GBC games, which the DS couldn't do. Also, they continued making GBA games all the way until 2008, so the DS didn't succeed the GBA until 4 years after it came out.

The Switch is the successor to the Wii U, not the 3DS. Just look at all the Wii U games being ported to the Switch. There hasn't been one 3DS game ported to the Switch.

The problem is people have a hard time disconnecting a handheld comming to the end of its run with a new system being released. They don't seem to understand that just because the 3DS is ending, doesn't mean whatever comes next, in this case the Switch, is its successor.

If Ubisoft decided not to put out an Assassins Creed every year or two, and instead released a new IP, that doesn't mean its a successor to Assassins Creed, it means they decided to stop making AC games.

If people really think that Nintendo wouldn't make bank on a new handheld they are delusional.

Of course Gamefreak would put the new Pokemon on the switch, they've already proven with how many released they can't handle the optimization required for old hardware. Its not a case of "Well pokemon is always on handheld therefore switch is a handheld" its a case of "Well they aren't competant enough to make another game run on the 3DS. Sun/Moon barely run on the thing.

That's mostly to due graphics and 3D models for 800 Pokemon.

LOL, there are only three Wii U games on Switch (two are deluxe versions with stuff not in the Wii U versions and all three benefit from better performance and have true portability).

You make it seem like they're porting everything over.
