"The Dreamcast Needed A Game Like This."
So, check it out, Grand Theft Auto 2 is a rpg/strategy/shooting/driving game that puts you in the shoes of a man in black who is nobody's enemy and nobody's friend. With your neutral reputation, you have to gain RESPECT from three rival gangs in a city on the edge of martial law by doing jobs for them.
Grand Theft Auto 2 is all about playing it cool. You also, however have to play smart. The Loonies hate the Yakuza, The Yakuza hate the Zaibatsu, and the Zaibatzu hat the Loonies. WHAT?????!!!!
Ok, don't get intimidated. The Loonies, Yakuza and Zaibatzu are three rival gangs residing in the downtown area(the first level). Let's say you take a Loonie Mission. You have to plant explosives on a portion of the Yakuza docks, you accomplish the mission, the Loonies respect you now, but the Yakuza are definitely not pleased. The Loonies were happy with your work, so they give you $20,000. Maybe you should go kill some Zaibatzu and gain the respect of the Yakuza. Hmmm. This goes on and on and on.
Of course you can't accomplish these missions without maybe jacking a few automobiles(weinner-mobile anybody?) Stealing cars is a big part of getting to where you want to go; after all, this is really big city. Just don't let a Cop see you or you are gonna be wanted. Don't run over any civilians either.
No all you have to do is get to $1,000,000. Have fun.
GRAPHICS: They get the job done. Who needs polygons anyways? Explosions are nice and flashy. Still we have to settle for B-movie blood. 8/10
GAMEPLAY: Top notch, baby. 10/10
SOUND: You will either love it or hate it. I still think that nothing beats the weird radio tunes blaring inside a car when you steal it. 9/10
REPLAY: A Bazillion years at the least. 10/10
BSQARED's FINAL THOUGHT: If graphics don't have to be super-amazing, and you like a game that you have to use your mind to complete, consider Grand Theft Auto 2 greatly. I picked up my copy for a cheap $29.99(used). You would have to be an idiot not to jump on that offer. If you rent this game, you will only be disappointed because you didn't have enough time to beat it.
Buy this game. (and watch out for those orange shirted guys who pick your pocket).
