"Best Mario Kart yet!"

The fifth Mario Kart in the series. Truly enjoyable. The best one yet in my opinion. New and old tracks, new characters, new modes, new items, VS mode, and ONLINE!

Gameplay (10/10) - The gameplay is great in this one. 32 tracks are now in this one. 2nd most just behind the GBA Mario Kart. It includes a mix of 16 old retro tracks and 16 new nitro tracks. There are now 12 characters in this one. You start off with 8 and you can then proceed to unlock an extra 4. They include: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Donkey Kong, Wario, and Bowser. The secret 4 are: Daisy, Dry Bones, Waluigi, and R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy). Each character starts with 2 karts but as you unlock more cups more will unlock. It goes as follows: Two karts for each character, then three karts, then seven karts, and finally you'll have every single kart available for every character. Every character has a standard kart while ALL the rest of the karts are new. With a total of 36 karts, it will be a tough choice to figure out which one suits you best. There are now stats for each kart. They are speed, acceleration, weight, handling, drift, and items. Speed determines how fast you will go. Acceleration determines how fast you go when it starts to move. Weight is the heaviness of your kart. More weight makes your acceleration way slower. But the upside to it is you don't get pushed around so easily and you can push people around the track like a rag doll (If your bowser that is). Handling enables you to make better turns which is extremely helpful. Drift allows you to go around corners more easily. But in a way it's bad, that is if you power slide a lot. Because you will take the turn way to sharply and probably end up hitting the side. It helps tremendously to power slide around corners. You hold R and rapidly press back and forth on the d-pad to get a small boost that really helps. There is also something called "snaking", it is rapidly performing mini boosts on straight-aways. It can really help you win races. There are now 2 all new items. They are Bullet Bill and Squid. Bullet Bill makes you transform into Bullet Bill and you shoot forward for a set amount of time knocking anything in your path. The Squid makes everyone's screen get covered in ink which is very handy. If you've played the other Mario Kart's you should be familiar with the other items, they are: Banana, triple banana, green shell, triple green shell, red shell, triple red shell, ? block, Bob-omb, mushroom, triple mushroom, golden mushroom, star, and lightning. This game also includes the ability to save your ghosts on each track and send them to your friend so they can race, an extremely sweet option.

There are 5 different modes you can do. Grand Prix, Time Trials, VS, Battle, and Mission mode. In Grand Prix you win races, unlock trophies, and unlock characters and karts. You can also get stars beside your name. For 1 star you have to get a 1 star rating on every track, 2 stars you have to get 2 stars on every track, and for 3 stars you have to get 3 stars besides your name. In Time Trials you race against the clock. If you get a good enough time you'll even unlock a Staff Ghost for each track. They are extremely hard to beat so good luck with that. In VS mode you go head-to-head against CPU's in any track you want in the game that you've unlocked. In Battle mode there is Balloon Battle and Shine Runners. In Balloon Battle you go around getting items trying to eliminate the other people that are in the arena by popping there balloons. In Shine Runners you try to collect the most Shines spread across the arena. It is a very fun game. The person who has the least amount of shines gets eliminated every minute, 30 seconds, and so on until there is a winner. In the all new Mission mode you try to complete certain tasks like collecting coins, or destroying Bob-ombs, or driving through numbered gates. There is also a boss at the end of each World. They are really fun to beat. Each world contains 9 levels. There are a total of six missions, but you can unlock the seventh one by earning at least one star in every mission.

Tracks (10/10) The tracks they included were pretty good choices. You will enjoy them. They included some old classics and they put in some awesome new ones. A few of the old ones are Koopa Beach, Donut Plains, Banshee Boardwalk, Bowser Castle, and Sky Garden. A few of the new ones are a rebuilt Rainbow Road (looks awesome with the loops), Delfino Square, Waluigi Pinball, and Airship Fortress.

Graphics (10/10) - The graphics will stun you. The game is 3-D. The characters all look really detailed. The items also look really good. All the tracks were pretty well designed. You really get sucked into the game while playing. This game probably has the 2nd best graphics next to Nintendogs.

Sound (8/10) - The sound fits really well in the game. They could have included a bit more variety but overall it's nice. The characters also make little chants when you pick them which is neat. And as always the music speeds up on the last track.

Replayability (10/10) - The replayability is pretty endless, especially if you can get online. There is so much stuff to do this game will keep you playing for hours. If your looking for a game that will last long, look no further.

Online (8/10) - In Nintendo WFC, you can vs. people all over the world online. You can also play with your friends by adding each others friend codes and then going to search for them. The reason I gave it an 8/10 is because Nintendo excluded 12 tracks from online. Also you can't drag things behind you like bananas and green shells, nor do they spin around you. And last but not least, When you search for friends it doesn't give you the option to search for a separate friend. But it's not to much of a problem seeing as not many friends will be online searching at the same time. But other than that it's great. Really good for when you want a challenge or if your bored. The tracks that are excluded include: Waluigi Pinball, Shroom Ridge, Tick-Tock Clock, Airship Fortress, Peach Gardens, Bowser Castle, Donut Plains 1, Bowser Castle 2, Koopa Beach 2, Luigi Circuit, Mushroom Bridge, and Banshee Boardwalk. Some of those tracks would have been really cool online...

You can also make an emblem that other people can see online. It's pretty neat. You can't see your own online but you can see others. There are some pretty good artists that can make awesome emblems.

-Awesome multiplayer (as usual)
-New items
-New characters
-All new mission mode
-Ability to save ghosts and send them to friends
-Getting online requires certain routers
-12 tracks not included online
-You can't spin or hold items behind you online

The only thing wrong with this game is pretty much just online. Everything single player is almost perfect.

Final thought - This game is a must own if you have a DS. If you don't have a DS well, go get one now! This will fit perfectly in any gamers collection.
