"Nintendo: We beg for games and you spit in our faces!"
The DS has been out for just over four months now and what do we have to show for it? Out of the DS' library there are about three games worth owning and Nintendo, instead of making quality games, gives us a game that could have been more mini-games in Super Mario 64 DS.
It's not like there is anything wrong with the execution of this game, it is the game itself. This game is composed of two mini-games that you get from the start and two that you unlock by doing well in the first two. One with two levels, Score Attack, and another that never ends, Marathon. The two levels that are in Score Attack are short. The first has you golng vertical. You use the stylus to create clouds that act as rails for baby Mario to glide down. The idea is to collect coins while protecting baby Mario from harm by using the stylus to draw circles around the enemies, which turns them into coins if done right, and then flinging the bubbles at baby Mario so you get credit. The second part has you moving horizontally with baby Mario riding on Yoshi's back. If you tap on Yoshi he will jump, if you drag the stylus across the field you create a bridge. If you tap at a random spot on the screen a cross-hair will pop up and Yoshi will launch an egg to either collect items or defeat enemies. The second game, Marathon, has you doing what you do in the first game, but it never ends. The idea is to see how long you can keep it up without dying. Sounds simple, huh? Well it is.
The problem with this game is that these games will last no longer than five minutes. Marathon will last as long as you don't die. In addition to the length of this game another problem is that these are boring games. Usually games like these are simple and fun which makes them addictive, this game is just annoying. If you mess up on the first part of the first game, you might as well start over. You will either expose baby Mario to getting hit which pops one of his three balloons, lives, or you will be outside of the coin trail, so you might as well start over. These games look like they should have been put in the library of mini-games for Super Mario 64 DS. These games don't make a game in itself, just a little break from a much bigger game. Don't believe people when they tell you to buy this game, they just want your money. They know it's not worth it.
There isn't much to say about this game, because, well, there isn't a complete game here. Overall, this game isn't worth buying. The $35 price tag is a punch in the face by Nintendo for a game that should have cost about $10. There isn't enough here to hold any gamer for more than 20 minutes. If you must have this, please, rent it first. All though I think that you could spend the money for the cost of renting this game on something better, like throwing it into the wind.
